Geranium essential oil, distilled from the blossom of the plant has a beautiful sweet fragrance and is widely used in the perfume industry but it also has antibacterial and antiseptic qualities that makes it useful for health care.
As with all essential oils, do not use internally and always dilute. For adults, 3-5 drops in 10mls of carrier oil or base cream and 5-10 drops in the bath. Not advisable to use for small children
Here are some uses for Geranium essential oil at home.
Acne, dermatitis and sore skin: Use with a carrier oil or might cream to soothe sore skin conditions.
Fluid retention: (also known as edema or dropsy.) The best way to help with fluid retention which usually occurs in the legs, feet, and hands is a good soak in the bath, adding a few drops of geranium oil. Remember to stir the bathwater well so that the oil is evenly distributed.
Infections: Where the skin is broken, bathe the wound with diluted geranium essential oil. Also, mix a few drops with water in a spray bottle to clean surfaces and disinfect the air.
Menopause: Traditionally women all over the world have used geranium to ease some of the unpleasant symptoms of menopause.
Stress and anxiety: So many people are looking for natural ways to help keep stress and anxiety under control these days and what more pleasant way could there be than using the aroma of a beautiful flower! Use a few drops in a burner or in the bath end feel the stress of the day melt away. Also, enjoy a full body or hand massage by mixing with a carrier oil.
