Starting with happiness, there are two types of happiness and it is important for you to understand both sides before we can continue. The first version of happiness is the kind that comes from an external source. This is something that enters your life and makes you feel happier.


Here are some examples:


  • I will feel better when my partner starts treating me right.

  • I will be so much happier if I could get a new job.

  • When I am rich, I will be much happier.

  • A new car would make me happy.


This is a simulation of happiness and can be taken away at any given time. You could lose your job, split from a partner or the new car could break down and just like that, your happiness has ended. Now, don't get me wrong, it is great to have things to be excited about and want to strive for bigger and better experiences, but these cannot and should not be the sources of your happiness. Which brings me onto the second type of happiness. This is a state of complete contentment and joy, rather than an external reason. Right now, it may seem like an impossible place to reach, but with some guidance, you can find this type of happiness and learn to reside there for the rest of your life. 


Let’s take a look at what makes you feel happy. I would like you to write down in your learning book, a list of all the things that make you happy. Don’t overthink this, just relax and have fun with it. There are no right or wrong answers and you can take as long as you need. This program is purposely done online like this, to allow you to work at your own pace and in your own time. Try to list as many as you can and once you have completed it, you can move onto the next part.

Great so now you have your list of things that make you happy, let’s look at how we can create more of that happiness in your life. I would like you to begin going through the list and split them into two parts, all the things that are monetary happiness and all the ones that are free happiness. For example, a red pair of Louboutins is monetary happiness and spending time with loved ones is free happiness. You may find some overlaps, for example going to a festival with my friends. The festival itself would, of course, cost money, so you would need to weigh up what part of the experience makes you feel happier, is it the live music and seeing your favourite artists perform, or is it the atmosphere created by all the people and being surrounded by your friends that gives you the most joy? Sometimes in life, there are multiple factors that create a feeling of happiness. The idea here is not to pull apart the experience, but simply focus on what aspects really make your heart sing.

Now you have split up your list, I would like you to look closely at the free happiness list. How many things on that list are easy to incorporate into your life? I would like you to choose a few of those things and for the next two weeks, I would like you to bring them into your life, make it a priority to do more of those free sources of happiness and see how you feel in a fortnight.

Before you can count your money, you have to learn how to count and this course is going to bring you right back to basics and one of the most basic needs that we, as humans have in this life is to feel joy and happiness. Sometimes when we focus so hard on the more intricate and defined things in life, we forget about the simple and beautiful things, the things that truly fulfil us.


Don’t be in a rush to get to the imaginary finish line, because this is a journey, not a race and the solid foundations that you build today, will be what supports your future for many years to come.
